Obituary - Cam Sycamore

Obituary - Cam Sycamore

Cam (Campbell) Sycamore (Hoo Hoo member no 91813) passed away on Friday, 8 November in Matamata. Cam was born in Waiuku on the first day of August in 1926 and shifted to Putaruru in the 1950s. Cam became a legend over time in the bush working with cross cut saw, the humble axe, and modern chainsaws. Cam helped a number of young men get started in their own forestry enterprises. He was a life member of both the Lion's Club of Putaruru and The Putaruru Timber Museum Society.

Cam was instrumental with a group of dedicated people in the establishment of the Timber Museum in Putaruru and worked through to his retirement on the project. His stories were always admired and will now become folklore. His loss is like the falling of a giant Kauri.

As Cam always said at the finish of conversation - "Chop Chop".
